Education - Where do you go for HELP?

School

School plays a big part in the life of any family and you will no doubt find there are changes in the school system since you were last involved. Children who have suffered trauma often experience difficulties in learning and applying themselves at school. Make an appointment with the school principal so you can ask your questions and discuss any concerns about your grandchild and the school environment.

There can be benefits to the school having an understanding of your situation at home so think about what you want or need to share. The school doesn't need to know every detail of your family – just those that are likely to affect school life and your grandchild's development.

Trained counsellors and special education teachers are available for students with these special needs. A proper assessment can be carried out and a program developed that will assist your child. For more information click here.

The principal and staff are required to treat your information confidentially and sensitively. Should you have any cause for complaint this should be done through the procedures set down by the school and the Department of Education and Training. Should you have any compliments to pass on - do that also! A good relationship with your child's school will be of great benefit to all.
