Local Community Support Organisations
There may be situations that arise within your family where you need immediate financial help – emergencies can happen at any time – and crisis help is available. You will find there are many agencies that can assist in a caring and non-judgmental way.
NSW Family Support Services Association (FSFA) tel 02 9692 9999 have offices throughout every region of NSW and are a good starting point. As are the Local Community Services Association (LCSA) 02 9211 3644 or 1800 646 545 who can direct you to Neighbourhood Centres or Community Centres able to assist you. Their various community organisations offer family services including counselling, support and referral services to families. They will refer you to the most appropriate financial assistance within your region.

What if we can’t afford school uniforms, books and other educational expenses?
The Department of Education and Training (DET) have a Student Assistance Scheme for help with text books, uniforms, excursions and the like. The principal of the school will discuss options with you and treat your enquiry with strict confidentiality.
Each year a $50 Back-to-School Allowance is paid to parents and caregivers to assist with setting up costs for the school year.
The Smith Family tel 02 9895 1233 has a Learning for Life sponsorship program that can provide children and their families with personal and financial support. They may assist with advocacy, emotional guidance and referral where needed.
The Mirabel Foundation which is based in Victoria and also works in NSW can help children with parents affected by illicit drug use. They may help with special school needs for your grandchild. They also offer advocacy, referral and ongoing support – tel 03 9527 9422 to see if your family qualifies for assistance.
