Family & Community Services (formerly DoCS)
The leading NSW Government agency responsible for community services. Community services work to protect children and young people from risk of harm and to
provide care for children and young people who are not able to live with
their families.
The Caring for Kids guide, developed by Community Services aims to support cares in this role. It has been developed for Community Services foster, relative and kinship carers of children who are in out-of-home care as a result of an order of the Children’s Court. However, non-government agency carers and those caring for children with no court order may also find it useful.
Raising Children Network
In Australia between 2006-07, there were 14 000 grandparent families
caring for 18 900 grandchildren. This situation is fraught with legal and
financial difficulties, and many grandparents are thrust into the role
without a lot of consultation.
The Springwood Neighbourhood Centre Co-op Ltd
Produced a fantastic resource kit for Relative Carers titled "Information for families with full-time care of a relatives child (2008).
Grandparents as Parents Again (GAPA)
GAPA was formed by UnitingCare Burnside Hastings Family Support Centre
and the Port Macquarie Evening Branch of the Country Women’s Association
of NSW.
GAPA is also dedicated to helping Grandparents and families provide a safe and loving environment in which children can grow.
